The KARAVAN hackathon took place

NewsNews and information

As part of our advocacy campaign in the #CultHeRit project to inspire young professionals in the cultural heritage sector, we successfully organized a mini heritage hackathon — an intensive 24-hour challenge that combined teamwork, creativity, and hands-on heritage documentation. The hackhaton participants were graduating students enrolled in the subject Documenting architectural heritage. Hosted with the support of our academic partners and mentors, led by Prof. Miroslav Malinović, the event brought together students eager to test their practical skills in a dynamic, real-world setting.

The challenge required participants to visit selected heritage buildings within the campus of the University of Banja Luka, conduct elementary on-site measurements, document key architectural features, and develop accurate building models within just 24 hours. Working under time pressure and guided by professors and mentors, students experienced a realistic simulation of professional heritage documentation and interpretation processes.

Beyond the technical exercise, the hackathon encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and innovative thinking, demonstrating how cultural heritage can become an engaging field for young professionals with diverse interests and skills. The event highlighted the importance of combining traditional documentation methods with contemporary approaches, while giving participants valuable practical experience and a stronger connection to heritage-related career opportunities.
