Wreaths Laid and Commemoration Held for the Fallen Employees and Students
UNIBLNewsNews and informationIn honour of marking 47 years of the University’s work and development, commemoration was held on 4 November 2022 and wreaths were laid at the commemorative plaque dedicated to fallen students and employees of the University of Banja Luka who lost their lives in the past defensive and patriotic war as members of the Army of the Republic of Srpska.
Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, says that in difficult times for the Serbian people courage, patriotism and chivalrous morale of fighters from among students and professors of the University of Banja Luka should be a model for all of us.
,,Today, they could have been successful professors, directors, company owners, but fate wanted them to put their lives into the foundations of the Republic of Srpska. That is exactly why it is very important to remember those people who fought and won freedom in these areas and to preserve them from oblivion”, Gajanin said and expressed sincere respect and gratitude to the fallen fighters, our students and employees of the University, who showed exceptional courage, heroism and sacrifice while defending the Serbian people and the Republic of Srpska.
Rector Gajanin told the families of the fallen students and employees that they can always count on the help of the University.
Minister for Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society Srđan Rajčević, MSc, pointed out that the Republic of Srpska will never be able to repay those young people who, at one time and moment in their lives, exchanged books for rifles. He added that the Republic of Srpska will continue to take care of their families and preserve the sacrifice they had made from oblivion.
President of the Veterans' Organization of the City of Banja Luka Radan Ostojić said that the Republic of Srpska will be eternally grateful to the students and professors who showed great courage and joined the fight for freedom.
,,All of them had the patriotism gene, and they abandoned their studies and jobs to join the fight and were sent to the most critical battlefields. Many of them paid the price of freedom with their lives”, Ostojić said.
Vojin Čavić is the father of Slobodan, who lost his life at the age of 25. Čavić thanked the Rector's Team of the University, which preserves the memory of all fighters from among the students and employees.
Wreaths were also laid at the commemorative plaque by the families of fallen students and employees, representives of the Veterans' Organization of the City of Banja Luka, representatives of the Ministry of Labour, War Veterans and Disabled Persons’ Protection, deans of the University members and members of the University Steering Board, Assistant Minister for Secondary and Adult Education Jasmina Boloban, representatives of the Students’ Union and the Students’ Parliament of the University.
