The example of the teaching associate at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka, Ognjen Mijatović, who in his career was also engaged in world projects, best shows how the knowledge gained at the Faculty is transferred into practice.

Mijatović points out that the knowledge gained during his studies at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, among other things, had a great impact on the quality and self-confidence in his work.

,,I advise future engineers to work and study hard, and to do their best during their studies, because the completion of the Faculty of Agriculture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy will open up numerous business opportunities for them. It feels especially good to be engaged in one of the world's projects, gain some knowledge and experience, and then come back and share everything with work colleagues and studentsˮ, said Mijatović, alumnus of civil engineering at our university and presently a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade.

Engagement in Dubai

In his rich career, he also worked for a reputable company, where in Dubai he performed the function of supervisor for the constructive phase of the construction of the Tiara United Towers, better known as the Twin Towers.

As he explained, the project consists of two 218 meters high rise residential-business towers, with the dimensions of 50 by 30 meters, located next to the longest highway in the United Arab Emirates and by air are about a kilometre away from the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa.

Mijatović's engagement came eight years after the suspension of the initial construction, when the towers had already been built up to the 16th storey. As he stated, the construction was continued then, but under a completely different project, where the dimensions of the towers were significantly changed.

,,It was especially challenging to respond to the investor's request to apply a completely different construction and project from the one that had already been built up to the 16th storey. Due to the whole situation, it was necessary to first strengthen all the elements of the existing structure and only then continue with the construction of towers from the 16th floor upwards.ˮ, Ognjen explained and said that in their final phase the towers now have 52 storeys.

,,In the process of strengthening and reconstructing the existing building, most modern methods for strengthening and reconstruction of reinforced concrete, composite and steel structures were applied. Of course, despite all the challenges we faced as a project team, the construction of the towers was successfully completed in 2019ˮ, Mijatović said.

Documentation available at the Faculty of Agriculture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy

The entire project documentation and several numerical models used in the design phase of the Tiara United Towers, and all details related to design and construction, applied standards and literature are available to teaching staff and students of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka.
