Workshop ''Green and Digital Transformation in the Construction Sector'' Successfully Held
NewsNews and informationOn 1 April 2026, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Banja Luka Region, organized a professional workshop entitled ''Green and Digital Transformation in the Construction.''
The workshop brought together more than 60 representatives of industry, public institutions, academia, and other relevant stakeholders from the construction sector, providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices related to the implementation of digital technologies, the development of green competencies, and the advancement of sustainable approaches within the built environment.
Through a series of presentations and interactive discussions, participants gained insights into contemporary trends and innovative solutions supporting the green and digital transition of the construction industry, as well as opportunities for improving business processes in line with current professional, market, and sustainability requirements.
The workshop programme included the following presentations:
Prof. Gordana Broćeta, PhD, presented the involvement of the University of Banja Luka and the Regional Chamber of Commerce Banja Luka in the project ''Boosting digital and green skills for a resilient and sustainable Western Balkan society'' and introduced the activities of the Regional Excellence Centre (REC) at the University of Banja Luka;
Igor Pandžić delivered a presentation entitled “1Future – A Shared Platform for the Future,” highlighting the platform’s role in fostering knowledge exchange, project development, and the enhancement of digital and green competencies aligned with contemporary labour market needs;
Assist. Prof. Mladen Amović, PhD, presented experiences related to the development of local spatial data infrastructure through the implementation of the Geographic Information System of the City of Banja Luka;
Prof. Darija Gajić, PhD, delivered a lecture on competencies required for improving the energy efficiency of residential buildings, presenting findings from a case study conducted in the City of Prijedor;
Prof. Sanela Klarić, PhD, introduced the DGNB green building certification programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina and discussed its significance for promoting sustainable construction practices and improving the quality of the built environment.
The workshop once again highlighted the importance of close cooperation between academia, industry, and public institutions in advancing the modernization and transformation of the construction sector. By exchanging experiences, expertise, and practical examples, participants gained valuable insights into contemporary approaches to planning, design, and management of the built environment, with particular emphasis on sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible resource management.
The organizers expressed their satisfaction with the strong interest and active participation demonstrated throughout the event, emphasizing that the continuous development of digital and green competencies represents a key prerequisite for building a more competitive, resilient, and sustainable construction sector in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the wider Western Balkan region.
