The goal | ||||
The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with the theory and morphological patterns of the urbanisation of the 20th century in the historical, social and cultural context of the countries of the Western Balkans. | ||||
The outcome | ||||
- Comprehensive understanding of the process of urbanisation in the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as its specific theoretical, morphological and social patterns in different spatial scales; - Developing awareness of the spatial and cultural heritage of the urbanisation process in the countries of the Western Balkans and understanding its problems and potential in the context of the theme of integrated design and sustainable development; - Abilities and skills in applied research, spatial analysis and critical thinking; - Abilities and skills of presenting research results in an argued written and graphic format. | ||||
Contents | ||||
- Development of ideas and concepts that have influenced the perception of architecture through its relationship with the city, landscape and natural environment, with consideration of morphological and social aspects; - Ecological, morphological and social aspects of the dominant contemporary patterns of urbanisation in the world; - Urbanisation in the countries of the Western Balkans through consideration of theoretical, morphological and social aspects concerning architecture, city and landscape; - Key spatial patterns in the contemporary context of cities and territories in the Western Balkans as a legacy of the 20th-century urbanisation process: abandoned urban 'islands', former industrial complexes and the problem of regeneration, collective housing neighbourhoods, urban periphery and rural settlements, dispersed urbanisation and imagining of new spatial interventions, settlements around spatial communications, accelerated transformation of territories between settlements and cities, cultural landscape - revaluation of spatial heritage and cultural identity concerning the processes of globalisation. | ||||
Methods of teaching | ||||
Teaching: Multimedia lectures, interactive work with students; Learning: Critical presentations and case study analysis, independent research in the form of essays, presentation and defence of student research. | ||||
