The goal
Enable understanding of theoretical foundations and methods for the solution of the plates and shells in engineering structures.
The outcome
Understanding of basic theory pf plates and shells for the applications in engineering. Student is able and competent to adopt suitable computational and mathematical model for concrete problem. Student is able to calculate several classes of plates and shells.
Contents
Basic concepts and classification of plates and shells. Thin plate bending theory. Navier's and M. Levy's solution for rectangular plates. Circular plates. Plates loaded in their plane. Membrane shell theory. Rotationally symmetric shells with rotational symmetric loading. Membrane theory of cylindrical shells. Bending theory of cylindrical shells. Numerical methods for solving plates: finite difference method, finite strip method, finite element method. Work in open-sourced and licensed software. Individual semestral assignments.
Methods of teaching
Auditory lectures and practical exercises. Work on project assignments in computational center by consulting with the assistant.

Облици провјере знања и оцјењивање
It is compulsory to solve and defend project assignment during the semester. If the students do not pass colloquiums during the semester, they can take correctional colloquiums during the regular examination period.
