The goal
Enabling students to apply knowledge in conservation practice. Encouraging students to experiment with all phases of the conservation project. This module provides a synthesis of theory and practice, and promotes the development of a holistic approach to architectural conservation.
The outcome
Ability to manage changes to historic buildings. Understanding the whole process of conservation projects, including research, establishing conservation strategies, formulating reports and implementing projects. Awareness of the impact of conservation principles on the preservation, reconstruction or adaptation of cultural assets.. Integrated, broad view of urban environments and understanding of historic buildings as integral parts of the urban environment. Ability to integrate conservation attitudes with contemporary economic and social goals.
Contents
TThis module explores different methods of promoting cultural goods. The prеservation project, which will be monitored on a weekly basis, offers the opportunity to design an intervention on the historical area. The project will not focus on a single historic building, but will offer an opportunity to explore the role of conservation in the wider urban environment. In parallel with this project, through a series of lectures, various phases in the development of conservation projects, research methods, assessment, renovation, constructive rehabilitation, adaptation, expansion and monitoring of historic buildings and surrounding urban areas will be presented and explored. Special emphasis will be placed on issues related to the preservation and management of historic cities.
